So...My bad for not posting in like months. I kind of got swamped for a while. But I'm back =) So I'm happy to see some new Glee episodes, finally (still waiting for Charice, but patience is a virtue). Too bad this one kind of sucked (ouch).
Let's begin. So the opening number, which wasn't really a number since they didn't sing, was eh. I love California gurls. It's a staple in my a cappella groups repertoire. But I agree with Sue. I was bored. Sure the pyrotechnics were cool to look at. But i just had a problem with one thing that kept popping up this show. It was unbelievably unrealistic. I know it's Glee. Unrealistic is it's middle name. But I usually forgave that if it wasn't over the top. This was just too much. And when the cheerleaders walked up with those pointy Madonna inspired bra thingies, I laughed hysterically. Not because it was funny, but because Ryan Murphy thought this was a good idea.
So, to side step for a minute. I wish I liked this episode. Reason being was because I was at their set about a month ago. My own glee club (though nothing like the show), took a tour of Paramount studios during the last leg of our California tour. It was actually the day after the Golden Globes. So while walking through studios, I saw Lea Michelle, Cory Monteith, Mark "Puck" Salling, and that rather hefty girl who I'm not gonna bother googling to find the actress's name. We also saw and performed in the auditorium they used. It was rather epic. The crew pushed us to watch it after the super bowl (They were actually filming for this episode and the next one. The lights in the auditorium were set up for "She's Not There")I didn't need to be told twice, but I felt kind of disapointed after the show.
So anyway,a ton of stuff was ridiculous in this show. Sue's craving for something more by using a damn canon, the football team joining glee, coach Beiste for thinking that this was a good idea, the magical appearance of the hockey team, the girls joining the football team when EVERYONE quit, the panic over not having a half time show (oh fuck, they're gonna lose), Brains (Brains? Really Ryan Murphy?), and the random song choice of Bills, Bills, Bills.
Ok, now to elaborate a little bit. Sue let me down this show. Her cruelty in this show is usually used for humor, never for "well, just cause." I felt like the writers were trying to hard. She just came off as a satanist. So sad. They needed her to bring it this episode, cause nothing else did.
The hockey team was so damn random. I'm like wtf? And you would think they would ban slushies at this school by now.
The Brains part was so pathetic I literally threw my slipper at the television. Should i feel more pity for the football players for thinking a 5 year old trick would work, or for the opposing team for actually being dumb enough for it to work. Not sure.
Bills, Bills, Bills is actually a hit and miss for me. Random choice. Thought it would be better for Santana to sing. Anyway, I actually really enjoy this arrangement. It's by far the best song of the episode. I just don't know why it was...well, there. But it did help.
Ok. FINALLY A POSITIVE! Thriller was good. I was afraid after a while when I was watching the show that it would suck! But it wasn't bad. Over the top, yes, but I can forgive that for being entertaining. Artie is a great performer, and I love Santana voice as well. I was hoping to see some more Michael Jackson inspired moves, but the choreography wasn't what I had hoped. If you do a Michael Jackson song (mind you this was the first MJ song they have done), the choreo has to kick ass. No excuses.
So yeah. BOOO!
D (would be D-, but I liked Bills, Bills, Bills)
I'll hopefully post about the other episode tomorrow. The next won i enjoyed, so don't worry =)
Hangs, do your worst!
